Payroll Specialist

Our Phoenix, AZ client is searching for an experienced and efficient Payroll Specialist to join there rapidly growing organization located in south Scottsdale.  This role requires a very experienced hands-on administrative skills with ERP implementation experience.  The Payroll Specialist will report to the CHRO and be responsible managing all aspects of their multi-state employee compensation data, ensuring timesheets are accurate and payments are made on time. The ideal candidate will manage both incoming as well outgoing W-2 forms in order to be compliant with tax season deadlines.  Very important: This is in-office, no remote. No job hoppers will be considered.

Payroll Administrator responsibilities include managing all aspects of payroll, and they must accomplish required tasks promptly. Ultimately, you will work with a small growing team to ensure documents are organized and payroll-related items are handled appropriately for our 1,500+ employees.

Responsibilities

  • Administer payroll for 1,500+ and growing employees

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

  • Review and abide by company policies and procedures

  • Prepare reports for weekly, quarterly and yearly reviews  

  • Make sure account balances are correct

  • Resolve payroll errors timely

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.

  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Proficient with payroll software.

  • Proven work experience as a Payroll Administrator or similar role

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll software programs

  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Good time management and organizational skills

  • Degree in business administration, finance or accounting preferred

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.

  • Five or more years of related experience required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
